Description

:bulletyellow: Name: Rory Alphonse Shepard
Age: 16 | Birthdate: April 19th | Gender: DMAB Androgyne; goes by "they" or "xe" pronouns | Hometown: Castelia City, Unova

:bulletyellow: Species: Tynamo
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Lonely
Summary Characteristic: Strong Willed

:bulletyellow: Personality
✓ Perservering, Proactive, Opportunistic | ✗ Cynical, Selfish, Insecure

"Huh? My name? Shepard. Rory Shepard."

★ Rory avoids company as much as possible, only talking when they're asked a question, or if someone is making small talk with them. They take on a boring, tact disposition, not wanting both conflict and [unnecessary] conversation. However, if pushed to the edge somehow, their true, cynical nature will show, and from then on they will make their opinion of you known.

★ Rory despises what they consider the current concept of social hierarchy. They believe merit is to be measured in deeds and behavior towards others, not how much someone fits a criteria of traits. They are very opinionated on everything, and refuse to shape their identity, ideals and interests after what is normal just because it's well, normal. However, they hide most of who they are, in order to avoid conflict.

★ Rory will grab an opportunity to make things better for themself the moment they see it.They may not have any long term goals, but they are proactive when it comes to dealing with most things. They can be determined, doing their best to make the most of any situation.

★ True, much of their views relate somewhat to morality, but their judgement is not that quick. They can understand that one put in a harsh situation will act desperately. They base their judgement on one's personality and deeds. And while it's likely that they may not have a good opinion of you, they feel as if it's normal for most to be that way-- selfish. What strikes a chord with Rory is whether or not that selfishness is obvious. It is important to note that there are times when they doubt and challenge their own views and ideals; sometimes getting mad at themself for putting themself and pretty much everyone else at such a high standard.

:bulletyellow: History

{♦ I ♦} Rory's life started out fine. They were raised by their aunt, who taught them the ideal that someone's true worth was measured in how they treated others, and it didn't matter what they liked or disliked, ate or drank or dressed in. And in a big, big city like Castelia, you were bound to meet all sorts of folks who liked and disliked different things, ate different food, drank different drinks, and dressed in different clothes; so it wasn't hard for them to catch on such an idea. Back then, Rory was just a happy kid, who just looked up to their [late] somewhat successful mother, who just happened to be raised in a big city, who just wanted to do good.

{♦ II ♦} School wasn't the tynamo's favorite place in the world. Not by a long shot. Rory found it hard to fit in, and despised the way things were done and run. They loved learning — for there was much to know — new things. It was just that things were done in such a way that made everyone feel discouraged, lonely, unworthy. A place that called itself a community, when it did nothing but made its members feel like outcasts. They had their share of insults and names, most of them on how they expressed their gender and their family history. They got into trouble for pulling pranks on teachers and other students and getting into fights.

{♦ III ♦} Later on, Rory would grow to become a workaholic. While they were not fond of their employers, it was a good way for them to fix their reputation, and avoid the drama that used to along with it. They realized they found solace in being alone, and what brought them down was other Pokémon. Or rather, [anthropomorphic] Pokémon in general. There was much to criticize for Rory, from popular trends down to the very values others held. Yes, it was taxing balancing work with school. But it was just easier to keep themself away from the rest of the world.

{♦ The Letter ♦} It was the end of a long, long day. Rory wiped the sweat of their forehead, and floated over to their mailbox. They checked it, and found nothing but an old, dirty envelope, with a golden gear seal. It wasn't a bill, or coupons. No, it looked like their much-deserved letter from Hogwarts. Nothing else raised their brows so high. They drifted up the stairs, gaze fixed on the envelope. After a few minutes of bumping into things, they found their way to their apartment, and opened the door.

"Aunt Gretta, I found this thing in the mail." They laid down on the couch, still looking at the envelope.

She closed and locked the door. "May I see?" She extended her fin out to take it.

"Here." They handed it over.

She opened it and let its contents slip out onto the table. She read the letter out, her excitement growing with each word. Rory was downright convinced that this was a scam of the sorts, and didn't understand how someone like Aunt Gretta — who was raised in the same, real city — believed it was legitimate. Heck, she wanted to go and see it for herself. But having known her their whole life, Rory knew there was no way to change her decision. And knowing that they were not capable of supporting themself yet, they knew they had to go too. A few days of quick, sleepless packing and some paperwork later, they said goodbye to the apartment building they called their home.

Together they left for the docks, and Rory was astonished to find a brass ship coming in, along with a couple of other Pokémon waiting at its pier. They were fooled too, so it seemed. But their aunt kept tugging at their arm and begging, so they had no choice.

And so they sailed off to the Hogwarts house of Steam— I mean, the island of Steam.

:bulletyellow: Moveset

:iconnormaltypeplz: Tackle
"A physical attack in which the user charges and slams into the target with its whole body."
- The tynamo slams their body against the opponent, then gives them a good slap for extra measure because this is Rory we're talking about here.
- They used to use this move in fights. Now its only use is for making something work.

:iconelectrictypeplz: Thunder Wave
"The user launches a weak jolt of electricity that paralyzes the target."
- They sweep their fin toward the opponent, launching a wave of thin, golden energy which paralyzes them.
- They use this move to get away from someone annoying, like a salesman. They usually yell "You shall not pass!" as they use it.

:iconelectrictypeplz: Spark
"The user throws an electrically charged tackle at the target. This may also leave the target with paralysis."
- They surround themself with electricity and punch the opponent really, really hard.
- They use this move for temporarily charging things with electricity such as lighting. They also use it as to stun or knock someone out if necessary.

:iconelectrictypeplz: Charge Beam
"The user attacks with an electric charge. The user may use any remaining electricity to raise its Sp. Atk stat."
- Rory forms a golden orb between their fins, pulls it backwards as it grows bigger, and then pushes it back forward. Once pushed forward, the orb becomes a large beam of electricity, directed at the opponent. What do you mean they are doing the "kamehameha" they made this up themself they do not know what is this "kamehameha" you speak of you're just jealous you didn't think of these cool moves yourself
- They rarely find use for this move nowadays, but it used to be the one they used most often in a fight.

:bulletyellow: Extras

- They dress androgynously, trying to apply both feminine and masculine aspects ontheir outfits.
- Rory finds organizing and cleaning things stress-relieving. They find organization soothing and are not very fond of a leaving a mess long.
- Rory enjoys any form of escapism, especially literature of almost any kind. They love to forget how terrible the world is, and to gain new knowledge. They love books enough to have [previously] volunteered at the Castelia City Public Library; they found it worth their time and effort to take care of the books there.
- They are prone to making pop culture references in most situations. Why they do this is because they are obviously a very huge dork none of your business.
- Rory feels slightly uncomfortable when talking about their parents (especially their father), though they won't hesitate to reveal the basics, such as the fact that their father had left their mother when he found out she was pregnant with them, and that their mother died when they were too young.
- They will enjoy pretty much any kind of food as long as it is decent. The tastier, the better.

- Rory has the natural ability to float in mid-air. They can go up to as high as eight feet from their departure point before it gets exhausting.
- They can breathe underwater, apparently.

- Rory has basic living skills, knowing enough that they can last about two weeks living alone.
- They enjoy and have an intermediate understanding of chemistry and physics, which aids them in pranking.
- Speaking of pranking, they know pretty well what they're doing, and once you've been targeted (which means they really can't stand you, so congratulations) there is no escape from your fate.
- They have experience in battle, having been involved in several physical fights.

"It's a horrifyingly dangerous home, but it's my horrifyingly dangerous home."

:bulletyellow: Heart Chart | After over half a year, Rory's found their first friends in a long, long time.
:bulletyellow: ♫ Spotify Playlist ♫
:bulletyellow: They work as a Book Keeper at the island's library.

:bulletorange: They arrived on the island at a particularly troubled time, and did not enjoy the lack of limbs very much.
